Depth Psychotherapy for Adults

  • Psychotherapy is an opportunity to slow down, turn inward, and notice the emotional patterns that shape how you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you. Many of the ways we struggle in adulthood have roots in childhood and adolescent experiences. While the behaviours and coping strategies you developed in younger years were once adaptive, you may find that now they feel limiting, confusing, or painful.

When you feel truly seen and understood, your natural capacity to heal is supported, and growth becomes possible. Thus, all inner work and meaningful change in psychotherapy happen in the context of a safe, trusting, and attuned relationship.

Within the safe harbour of the therapeutic relationship, we can draw on a range of methods to access the heart of your experience, understand recurring patterns, and support your ongoing healing. These methods can lead to lasting psychological change.

  • In adult psychotherapy, we often explore:

    • Repeating emotional or relational patterns

    • Beliefs about yourself and others

    • Inner conflict between different needs or parts of the self

    • Grief, loss, or unprocessed emotional experiences

    • Emotional responses that feel intense or disproportionate to a situation, especially those that lead to difficulty regulating

  • This kind of depth-oriented psychotherapy goes beyond symptom reduction to fundamental self-level change. You might experience the following:

    • Increased self-awareness, including a deeper understanding of your emotions, beliefs, and behavioural patterns

    • Emotional integration, including learning to feel and process your emotions fully, rather than avoiding or suppressing them

    • A shift in limiting patterns, including experimenting with new ways of responding, thinking, and relating to others

    • Increased self-compassion and a reduction in self-criticism

    • A transformation of intellectual insights into embodied, authentic change beyond the therapy room

  • Together, we are exploring the depth of what it means to be you and how you live in the world. We can use different approaches to do so, including:

    • Somatic and body-based work

    • Sand tray and symbolism to access unconscious material

    • The Hakomi Method to explore core beliefs using mindfulness of the body

    • Emotion-focused chair-work

For more detailed information on these methods, please visit Therapeutic Methods nestled under Psychotherapy Services at the top bar.

  • This approach is often most helpful for adults who:

    • Are genuinely curious about their inner world and emotional life

    • Are willing to explore how past experiences shape present challenges

    • Want psychotherapy as a process rather than a superficial quick fix

    • Are open to working with emotion, the body, and symbolic processes

If you’re not sure if this applies to you, please reach out and we can determine if we’re a good fit.
